Introduction
In 1925, the Reich Committee for Delivery Conditions ( RAL for short) was founded to standardize the colors of industrial products. The first RAL color chart had only 40 standardized colors to enable a uniform color scheme for industrial products. Over time, the color palette grew to 216 shades, now known as RAL Classic .
100 years later, RAL is celebrating this anniversary together with the Dutch design studio Raw Color – with a limited edition that honors the most important RAL colors.
RAL - 100 Years - Joy of Color
Raw Color is a design studio based in Eindhoven, Netherlands, founded by Christoph Brach and Daniera ter Haar. They work in graphic design, photography, and product design—their focus is always on color.
By analyzing RAL's classic colors, Raw Color recognized that RAL's uniqueness lies in its practical use and functionality in everyday life. They created color groups based on their application and selected five colors from areas such as transportation, communications technology, and security. These colors are both functional and aesthetic.
The anniversary colors
RAL 5017 Traffic Blue
Traffic blue is a striking and intense color developed for traffic. It represents warning and visibility and is often used for signs, markings, and safety equipment.
RAL 3015 Light Pink
Light pink is a soft red with a pink hue, specified as one of the internal colors for multi-conductor cables according to DIN standards. These cables are essential for data transmission in data centers and telecommunications.
RAL 1016 Sulphur Yellow
For two decades, sulfur yellow has been the standard color for many European emergency vehicles. This color ensures high visibility and quick recognition.
RAL 6002 Leaf Green
Leaf green is popular for agricultural machinery and fences. It has moderate light reflectance, making it ideal for areas that need to be visible but not too obtrusive.
RAL 3000 Fire Red
Fire red is one of the original 40 RAL colors and is known worldwide as a safety color – fire engines and emergency stop buttons are often painted with it.
